A high school running back has been arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge after he allegedly kicked a teammate in the groin during practice.

He is accused of kicking the 16-year-old intentionally. The boy was taken to the hospital following the incident.

A warrant was issued the following week and he surrendered. A $250 bail bond was posted immediately on one count of assault with bodily injury, which can carry a maximum penalty of up to a year in jail along with a $4000 fine.

On Jan. 31 the Haltom football team was working out without pads doing a drill with players in a three-way tug-of-war with a rope.

After the 16-year-old was kicked, he fell and writhed in pain while the game continued. Some players carried him to the trainer's office, where he was checked, and an assistant coach allegedly told Hafley that he would be fine.

After a trainer called the boy's parents, Landmesser's wife took him to the hospital, where he was given a sonogram to rule out ruptures and sent home with painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, Landmesser said.
